IMPORTANT:  If you don't see the board you want here, then it is not available.  This page describes all boards currently for sale, and if it is not listed, I don't have it - so please don't ask me for anything not shown.

Also, do not ask for artwork, as refusal is guaranteed. In some cases I have been asked because "it is difficult to get boards shipped to [wherever]". While this may well be true, I will not supply my original artwork to anyone for any reason.

On-Line Updates

When boards or other products are ordered, you will be sent a Username and Password to access the board construction articles.  The very latest information is available on these pages, and you will be able to see the information for the boards you have purchased as well as the other constructional articles.  This service will be maintained for all new articles.

Your are requested to keep the login information confidential, as this is a service for those who have bought boards, and is not intended for the general public.  Should the login information become public knowledge, ESP will change the user name and password immediately, and you will have to re-apply.  This constitutes a nuisance for everyone, and hopefully can be avoided.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Current Update Information
Project 71 - there was an omission in the board layout.  A link is needed on the underside of the board, and without it the circuit will not work.  Please refer to the construction article for full details.

Project 09 - The Left and Right input markings are incorrect on the silk screen overlay.

Shipping And Documentation
All boards are shipped in a padded postal bag via air mail, and a flat fee of US$ 8.00 applies for orders up to 8 boards.

You will get access to the secure section of ESP's website, and can print the documentation from there, or download a PDF file (coming soon) with all constructional details.  These include a full schematic, circuit board overlay and a bill of materials.  Where applicable, a suggested power supply diagram will also be provided.

Additional documentation will be also be available.  If desired, a CD containing all project material available from the secure site can be obtained for AU$5.00 with any order. This is provided free with any order over US$45.00 (excluding postage).

Order Codes
The order code is very simple.  Pxx is the project number - where there is more than one board for a project, they will have the suffix A, B, etc.  All boards are made with fibreglass PCB material.  Where boards are sold in pairs, they are shown as (for example) P61-2.  Please note that paired boards will not be sold individually, nor in odd numbers.

Miscellaneous Info.
All board sizes are in millimetres and are approximate to the nearest millimetre.  Board thickness is approx. 2mm unless otherwise stated.  Where fuses are provided for, these will normally be M205 (20 x 5 mm),  and the rating is described in the documentation.

Some boards have relatively small tracks and closely spaced components.  These require a fine tipped soldering bit (preferably temperature controlled), and careful soldering techniques.  If you are new to soldering components into a PCB, please exercise caution during construction, as it is possible to damage the board with excessive or prolonged heat.

Warranty
All boards are checked before shipping, but it is possible that a defective board may be shipped.  The boards supplied are warranted to be free from defects that would make them unusable for the intended use.  Such boards will be replaced free of charge or a refund given (less postage charges) upon receipt of the defective board(s).  Warranty replacement cannot be made after construction has commenced, and board damage sustained during or after construction is not covered.

Minor flaws may be encountered on some boards that in no way affect the operation of the final circuit.  These include holes that may be slightly off-centre from the pads, minor track variations or flaws in the component side overlay.  These flaws (should they exist) will not impair the operation of the circuit, and boards will not be replaced under this warranty if such flaws are discovered unless the flaw is of such magnitude as to make component insertion difficult or impossible.

The only warranty is as described above, and covers defective boards.  It is the buyer's responsibility to determine the suitability of any project PCB for their needs.  By continuing with a purchase, the buyer explicitly accepts that no refunds will be given should the project prove to be unsuitable for any reason, or is too complex for the purchaser to assemble.

Please note - the photos of the boards shown below are not to scale, and are simply to give you an idea of what each board looks like.  There is no discernible detail due to space and size restrictions.  The dimensions are given for each board, so you can judge the scale from the sizes given.

Project 3A -  60W / 8 Ohm Power Amplifier (Rev-A)

The boards and circuit for this project are different from the published design, and the supplied circuit and BOM reflects the new schematic.  This was changed because it turned out to be easier to lay out the board with the modified circuit, and there are some useful enhancements to the amp, which improve performance a little.  The new version has been re-published as Project 3A

The layout comprises two amplifiers, individually fused on board.  The board is designed to be able to be cut down the middle for separate amplifiers, and also includes provision for a resistor and a pair of links to convert to bridge operation.  Signal take-off points are provided so a SIM (Sound Impairment Monitor) can be connected easily.  If flat-pack transistors are used, they can be mounted on the board, or the edge of the board can be cut off and TO-3 transistors can be used.

This project has proven to be very popular, and several constructors have commented most favourably on the sound quality of the amp.  The new Revision A boards fix the small track error that existed in the previous version.

Project 05 - Preamp Power Supply

This supply is slightly changed from the original project, and includes better DC filtering to keep noise to the absolute minimum.  It can be operated from a single 15 or 16V AC plug-pack power unit, or a 15-0-15 V transformer.

Order Code P05
Size (mm) 89 x 46
Price US$ 12.00 Each

Project 06 - High Quality Phono Preamp

This preamp is slightly changed from the project.  It is very easy to build, and gives excellent performance.  Requires a +/-15V supply.  Using 2 opamps (even the lowly TL072), this preamp will outperform most of the common circuits you see, with very low noise and accurate RIAA equalisation (but with an extended bottom end that sounds much better than the "true" RIAA equalisation curve.).

The board does not include an integral power supply.  Use P05 power supply board, or build your own.

Project 09 - Linkwitz-Riley Electronic Crossover (Rev-A)

Slightly changed from the project article to be as flexible as possible, this is a complete stereo 2-way (or mono 3-way) crossover, with preset pots for level adjustment and output buffer amplifiers.  To make a stereo 3-way unit, two boards are needed.  There are a number of options available during construction to make the unit as flexible as possible.

The board does not include an integral power supply.  Use P05 power supply board, or build your own.

Project 19 - Single Chip 50W Amplifier

The layout for this amp is unchanged from the published project, except for the SIM connections.

The layout comprises two amplifiers, individually fused on board.  The board is designed to be able to be cut down the middle for separate amplifiers, and also includes a resistor and a pair of links to convert to bridge operation.  Signal take-off points are provided so a SIM (Sound Impairment Monitor) can be connected easily.

Order Code P19
Size (mm) 115 x 40
Price US$ 14.60 Each

Project 36 - Death of Zen Class-A Amplifier
Project 70 - DoZ Headphone Amplifier

The circuit for this amp is changed slightly from the original published project.  High power TO3-P (flat pack) transistors can be used instead of TO-3 devices (the board is designed to allow a wide range of transistor and mounting options), and all components mount on the board (if flat-pack transistors are used).

The same board is used to build the DoZ headphone amplifier (Project 70), and the order code is unchanged.  The construction details include the standard DoZ and the headphone amplifier variation.

The layout comprises one amplifier, and these boards are sold only in pairs.

Project 37A - Minimalist Hi-Fi Preamp (DoZ) +
Project 37B - DoZ Preamp Power Supply

The circuit for this amp is changed very slightly from the published project.  The performance is really quite exceptional for such a simple circuit, and I have had many e-mails praising the sound of this preamp.

The layout comprises two channels.  Multiple units can be powered from the one supply unit (details are included).  The P37B board is supplied with the preamp board, rather than separately.  This makes it marginally more expensive if you don't want to use the supply, but cheaper if you do.  The preamp board and power supply are sold together and cannot be separated.  This means that if you buy more than one, you will have spare supply boards.  A single transformer can be used to power multiple supplies. (Picture shows preamp on the left, supply on the right.)

The circuit for the supply is changed slightly from the published project.   It is designed to be able to use a single 15 to 16V AC plug-pack or a 15-0-15 transformer.  All components except the transformer are on the board.  This supply can easily power up to four P37A preamp modules, and details are provided in the instructions.

Project 61 - 55W AKSA Hi-Fi Amplifier

The circuit for this amp is changed slightly from the published project (all component values and transistor data sheets are included with the supplied documentation for the boards).

The layout comprises one amplifier, individually fused on board.  These boards are sold only in pairs.

Please Note:  For contractual reasons, I can supply the boards only for this project (i.e.. not complete kits or any components).

Project 68 - 300W Subwoofer Amplifier

A high powered amplifier, designed especially  for subwoofers.  The board contains one amplifier, and uses six flat-pack power transistors (such as MJL21193/4 or 2SC3856/ 2SA1492), all mounted underneath the board.  The entire amplifier assembly is then mounted to a suitable heatsink using the six transistor mounting screws.

Using a +/-56V supply, the amplifier will easily provide over 300W into 4 ohms.  This amp is designed for intermittent (i.e. subwoofer) duty only into 4 ohms - do not use it in single board form for continuous heavy duty (for example PA or disco).

As a 150W amp into 8 ohms it may be used safely for continuous operation.

NOTE: For heavy duty continuous operation into 4 Ohms, use two boards.  The second board is a "cut" from the main board, an allows for an additional 4 output transistors (10 in all).  The remainder of the board is discarded (hence the discount :-).   I will cut the board for you in exactly the right place, and finish the edge properly.  You will get the other half as well, but will not be able to use it for anything useful.

Note that this board does not have on-board fuses, and these must be provided externally.  A heatsink is also required for the driver transistors - this can be fabricated from a piece of 1mm thick aluminium plate, full details provided with the board(s).

Project 71 - Linkwitz Transform Circuit

The layout for this circuit is unchanged from the published project design.

The layout comprises one transform circuit.  Requires a power supply (e.g. P05) giving +/-12V to +/-15V at less than 10mA.  Documentation includes the Linkwitz Transform Spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel format), which is needed to calculate the values for your loudspeaker and enclosure.

The board is designed to allow series resistors for all filter resistances, providing an easy means of getting an exact value.  Capacitors are paralleled (up to 3) for each of the calculated values, so getting the odd values needed will be easy.  Unused resistor locations are replaced by a link, and unused capacitor locations are left vacant.

Project 72 - Stereo 20W / Channel IC Amplifier

The layout for this amp is unchanged from the published project.

The layout comprises two amplifiers, individually fused on board.  The board is designed to be able to be cut down the middle for separate amplifiers.  The board looks very similar to the P19 board, and is the same size, so makes an ideal companion board to Project 19 for tweeter amps in a 3-way system

Rotary Switch Extension Shaft

When you build a preamp (especially a passive one), it is always best if the selector switch and even the volume pot is at the back of the case next to the input sockets.  This keeps internal wiring to a minimum, and thus reduces capacitance and loss of high frequencies.  The trouble is, rotary switches only have a 50mm shaft at best, and this is nowhere near long enough.

The extension shaft will allow you to have the selector knob at the front, and the switch at the back where it belongs.  These shafts are incredibly hard to get, but I can make them to order.  The shaft is very rigid, so will not cause the switch to have a "spongy" feel.

The extension shaft comes with a panel mounting bush, and suits standard 6.35mm (1/4") shafts as found on nearly all switches and pots.  The standard length is 250mm, but it can be shortened down to as little as 100mm (internal dimension) by cutting off the excess with a hacksaw and filing the end.  Smaller (i.e. less than 100mm) units can also be made if desired.

ESP Extension Shaft
... And this is what it looks like (typical)

Made from aluminium, and supplied with screws and tapped holes to attach to the switch shaft, panel mounting bush (may be steel or brass) and full instructions.

To order a specific length, the order code is "ES" followed by the length (in millimetres).  For example, a 250mm shaft will have an order code of ES250 - the price is the same for any length up to 250mm, since most of the cost is making it, not the materials.  Above 250mm, I have to use a bigger bag, so they are slightly more expensive.  The maximum length available is 350mm, and the minimum is 75mm.  Short shafts (< 200mm) have a shorter sleeve than that shown above.

Shafts lengths are made in 25mm increments, and will be accurate to within about +/-2mm

ESP Site CD

You can get a CD-ROM with the entire contents of the ESP site, and this includes all downloads as well as a comprehensive range of component data sheets and application notes - mostly in PDF format.  These have taken a considerable amount of time to acquire, and may save you many hours of searching and downloading.

The "secure" section of the site is included (without any password), and although the site will get additions that your CD will not include after shipping, this is still a very useful tool for anyone who wants a reference compendium at their fingertips.

In all, there is over 60MB of information, and anything else useful that I find hiding on my hard disk will be included as well.  The component data section is not indexed, but all files have been named (or re-named) so they describe the actual device.

Note that copyright of the data sheets is the property of the original publisher, and ESP makes no claim to ownership unless specifically stated in the HTML article or other document.
